Dr Manjula Meda interviewed on BBC Radio 4's Inside Health discussing antimicrobial resistance
Inside Health helps navigate the wealth of medical information - often conflicting and confusing - encountered on a daily basis.

Dr Manjula Meda, HIS Chair and consultant microbiologist at Frimley Park NHS Foundation Trust, appeared on BBC Radio 4's Inside Health programme this month to discuss tackling the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.

During the interview, Dr Meda spoke about the pioneering work at Wexham Hospital investigating water systems as a potential breeding ground for antimicrobial resistance. As part of this approach, the team has  removed many of the sinks from hospital wards to reduce the spread of harmful microorganisms linked to water outlets.

The discussion highlighted the importance of collaboration, an approach that sits at the heart of the HIS Special Interest Group BEIPI’s (Built Environment and Infection Prevention Initiative) work. By challenging traditional design assumptions and testing new solutions, initiatives like BEIPI aim to shape safer healthcare environments and reduce infection risks for patients and staff.
