
Peter Hoffman is a retired Consultant Clinical Scientist who previously worked for UKHSA. Throughout his distinguished career, he developed expertise in specialist ventilation and decontamination, playing a pivotal role in advancing best practices in these critical areas. His work has extended across governmental and professional bodies, where he has contributed to the development of influential guidelines and standards that continue to shape the field today.
Throughout his career Peter was actively involved in investigating incidents and outbreaks, using the insights gained to educate and inform healthcare professionals. His commitment to knowledge sharing has had a lasting impact on both practice and education within infection prevention.
Peter has also provided extensive support to HIS, contributing significantly through the delivery of training, input into clinical guidelines, and broader educational initiatives. His dedication to the Society was formally recognised in 2020 when he was awarded Honorary Membership of HIS. This honour acknowledged not only his expertise but also his generosity in supporting conferences, courses, guideline development, the Journal of Hospital Infection, and many other activities.
