HIS IPC leaders' course - Navigating the minefield: dealing with complaints, litigation and the media

NHSE IPC Education Framework level: This course aligns to Advanced level on the framework

This online course provides training and guidance to IPC leaders on investigating and managing complaints, legal issues and how to respond to media interest.

After attending, delegates will be able to:

  • Describe the process for effectively investigating and responding to a complaint.
  • Explain the role of the Coroner’s court and what is expected of a witness.
  • Understand how to prepare for an appearance in court and how to cope with the process.
  • Explain how Duty of Candour applies to IPC.
  • Describe IPC risk assessment and how to take a pragmatic approach.
  • Explain how HCAI litigation costs are calculated and whether the data is an accurate reflection of the true cost.
  • Understand how the media views medical stories, how to deal with interviews and how to avoid pitfalls.

Accreditation will be sought from the Royal College of Pathologists for 6 CPD credits. A Certificate of attendance will be provided after the event for delegates who attend the full day.

Payment

Please note that payment is online by credit/ debit card or PayPal only and places are only secured once full payment is received. As the Healthcare Infection Society is a small charitable organisation with minimal staff resources, purchase orders will only be accepted for bookings with a value of more than £500.

Cancellation or non-attendance

Cancellations will be accepted in writing by email to admin@his.org.uk up to 14 days prior to the event and the registration fee will be refunded in full. Refunds will not be provided for cancellations less than 14 days prior to the event or for delegates who do not attend on the day.

Certificate of attendance

A Certificate of Attendance will be provided after the event for delegates who attend the full day. Accreditation will be sought from the Royal College of Pathologists for 5 CPD credits.
