About IPC Training Days
The IPC Training Days programme provides education for trainees and other healthcare professionals working in the field of medical microbiology, medical virology, infectious diseases, and other areas of infection control.
The structured rolling programme comprises a series of nine independent, one-day training sessions.
Learning Outcomes
After attending this session covering 'Reducing harm to patients and improving quality of care' delegates will be able to:

Discuss the importance of surgical site infection and prevention strategies

Explain the role of operating theatre design and function in SSI

Describe the contribution of operating theatre behaviours and rituals in SSI

Understand the role of surveillance in the prevention of SSI

Explain the steps required in the investigation of an operating theatre outbreak

Describe the role of antibiotic prophylaxis in SSI, and how this relates to antimicrobial stewardship.
HIS members who attend 7 (distinct) of the 9 IPC Training Days in the rolling programme and complete the HIS/UKHSA Foundation Course in Infection Prevention and Control are eligible to apply for the Foundation Certificate in IPC.
