The course comprises 5 modules in an on demand, self-led learning format.  The on demand learning will be supplemented a one-week programme of live online sessions consisting of online workshops and IPC clinics (Q&A/discussion sessions) with the presenting experts. This will take place over five afternoons in a designated week for each cohort*.

This version of the course is required to apply for the Foundation Certificate in IPC

Each module will cover 6 - 8 topics and include video presentations, additional pre- and post-learning resources, links to additional information and suggestions for applied learning tasks, plus multiple-choice questions for summative assessment. 

Live online session dates*:

Course cohort 2 (BOOKINGS NOW CLOSED):  Live online workshops and IPC Clinics will take place every afternoon (13:30 - 16:45) during the week of 11 – 15 March 2024

Registration has closed for the March 2024 cohort.  Further course cohort dates for 2024 are being planned.

*Delegates signing up for a blended course are expected to take study leave for the designated week of live online workshops/IPC clinics and must be able to attend and actively participate in all 5 afternoons. Delegates must commit to being available for the designated live online sessions - it will not be possible to switch to the live online session week of a different cohort.

Modules covered:

Basics in IPC - including, isolation, hand hygiene, device-associated infections, respiratory viruses, HCID

Pathogen-based approach to IPC - including epidemiology of common pathogens and the use of typing in outbreak investigation

IPC in the built environment - including ventilation, water management, disinfection and sterilisation

Principles of surveillance and stewardship - including essential tools, surveillance of AMR and stewardship, surveillance applied to HCAI, using data for local action.

Leadership and managing change - including behavioural science, structure of IPC services, communication, sustainability

Access to on demand content:

Delegates will have access to the on demand content on the eLearning platform for a period of six months. Access for each cohort will commence between 12 and 4 weeks before the designated live online workshop/IPC clinic week, and continue for an additional three months.

Live online workshops and IPC clinics (Q&A/discussion sessions): 

Each module will be supplemented by a facilitated, online live IPC Clinic with a panel of expert presenters. Delegates will have an opportunity to submit questions in advance or during the live online session. In addition, live online workshops will develop the learning in each module and will include outbreak exercises, interpretation of environmental testing reports and designing a national surveillance system.
