HIS IPC leaders' course – Outbreaks and the IPC Leader: managing the fallout

NHSE IPC Education Framework level: This course aligns to Advanced level on the framework

The programme will include speaker presentations and discussion sessions in order to:

  • Allow the sharing of experience and knowledge
  • Act as a forum for bringing together DIPCs who are both microbiologists and non-microbiologists
  • Facilitate future research and collaboration
  • Narrow the knowledge gap for those with differing clinical backgrounds

After attending, delegates will be able to:

  • Explain the regulatory perspective and expectations for management of outbreaks.
  • Understand how to collect and analyse data in order to respond appropriately to outbreaks.
  • Discuss whether current definitions give false reassurance, and whether they need changing.
  • Identify how to communicate effectively in a crisis.
  • Understand how to ensure healthcare worker wellbeing during outbreaks and how to protect those who identify failures in patient care.
  • Discuss the difference in outbreak response between long-term and secondary care.

Payment

Please note that payment is online by credit/ debit card or PayPal only and places are only secured once full payment is received. As the Healthcare Infection Society is a small charitable organisation with minimal staff resources, purchase orders will only be accepted for bookings with a value of more than £500.

Our payment portal has recently been upgraded.  As a result, you will now need to insert an email address even when paying by credit or debit card. This does not mean you need to create a PayPal account.  A PayPal receipt will be sent to the email address that you provide during card payment.

Cancellation or non-attendance

Cancellations will be accepted in writing by email to admin@his.org.uk up to 14 days prior to the event and the registration fee will be refunded in full. Refunds will not be provided for cancellations less than 14 days prior to the event or for delegates who do not attend on the day.

Certificate of attendance

A Certificate of Attendance will be provided after the event for delegates who attend the full day. Accreditation will be sought from the Royal College of Pathologists for 5 CPD credits.
