Chair

Dr (Elisabeth) Lisa Ridgway

Dr Lisa Ridgway is a retired Consultant Medical Microbiologist who most recently served at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and is the current President of HIS.  

Lisa trained in London and Liverpool before settling in Sheffield. Over the course of her career, Lisa combined clinical service with leadership in IPC and in professional societies.

Within HIS, Lisa has held multiple roles and in 2015, she became Chair of HIS Council, a role she held until 2021. Lisa has played a leading role in HIS education initiatives and is actively involved the Professional Development Committee and leads development of the Foundation Course and Trainee programme.

Prof Chris Whitty

Professor Chris Whitty is Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for England, the UK government’s Chief Medical Adviser and head of the public health profession. Chris is a practising NHS Consultant Physician in infectious diseases at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) and the Hospital for Tropical Diseases. He is an epidemiologist and was Professor of Public and International Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) before becoming CMO and remains an honorary professor.

 

 

Speakers

Dr Sarah Logan

Dr Sarah Logan is an infection specialist working as a consultant physician in infectious diseases at UCLH London. She is clinical lead for the Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the OPAT service.

Sarah is an elected councillor at the Royal College of Physicians and chair of the Joint Specialist Committee for Infectious Diseases and the RCP Medical Workforce Director until June 2025.

 

 

Dr Nicholas Price


Dr Nicholas Price is the National Clinical Director for Infectious Diseases at NHS England and a Consultant in Infectious Diseases & General Medicine at Guy’s & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

 

Dr Surabhi Taori 

Dr Surabhi Taori is a Consultant in medical microbiology at NHS Lothian and has been working in the field of infection management for over 2 decades. She is passionate about medical education and dedicated to improving the training experience for future infection specialists.

Surabhi is the Chair of Federation Societies Conference 2026 and Chair of the HIS Professional Development Committee.

 

 

 

Dr Amy Belfield

 

Dr Amy Belfield is a specialist registrar in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology. Amy is also a trainee Professional Affairs Secretary at the British Infection Association and is the co-author on the 'Infection Specialities Workforce Report.'

 

 

Dr Kieran Killington 

 

 

Dr Kieran Killington is an NIHR ACF in Infectious Diseases & General Internal Medicine at Imperial College Healthcare Trust. He is the co-author of the 'Infection Specialist Workforce Report'. 

 

 

 

Dr Harriet Hughes

Dr Harriet Hughes is a Consultant in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. She has a strong commitment to postgraduate medical education, specialist training, and the development of the future infection specialists through her positions as Co-Chair of the Combined Infection Training Specialist Advisory Committee, Chair of the Medical Microbiology/Medical Virology College Specialist Training Committee, and as Training Programme Director for Microbiology in Wales.

She is the Honorary Secretary of the British Infection Association.  Her clinical and research interests are varied, particularly including bone and joint infections and anaerobic infections. She is the Clinical Lead for the UK Anaerobe Reference Unit.
